Coronavirus Edition: 10 Ways To Self-Quarantine When A Family Member Has The Virus At Your Home
Imagine you have a family member in your house who has come home finally from abroad. We really can’t say if he/she has been in contact with the virus. Therefore, this article is intended for everyone and anyone who believes they have been exposed to COVID-19 and is required to be home quarantined to prevent community transmission.
The guidelines below describe a list of things that a person who is infected should do while practicing home quarantine. The most important ways to quarantine a person who’s infected is by –
ONE ARM DISTANCE? NO, ONE METER DISTANCE
Stay in a well-ventilated single-room preferably with an attached toilet. If a family member wants to take care of the person and wishes to stay in the room, then they must maintain a minimum of one-meter distance from the person being quarantined.
USE SEPARATE BATHROOMS
Other household members must use a separate bathroom. If you are sharing the same bathroom as that person – cleaning taps, doorknobs, and utensils with soap and water is a requirement and a must because it is dangerous to be touching them without proper cleaning.
NO VISITORS ALLOWED
Do not allow visitors into your home. Allowing visitors in the house means you are making them susceptible to the virus. In case people visit your house, use one-meter distance to your benefit.
NAME’S WASH. HAND-WASH
Wash your hands with soap and water and make sure you do it frequently. Washing hands takes a minimum of 20 seconds. We know you wash your hand in world record-breaking 5 seconds, so we’re here to let you know that it is not recommended to wash your hands that way.
AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE
Touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with an unwashed hand will surely give you the virus, especially if you have a family member who is suspected of COVID-19 at your home.
THERMOMETER HEALTH-CHECK
It’s important that home quarantined people must monitor body temperature using a thermometer twice a day, to check the progress, for better or for worse.
FEVER SYMPTOMS? GET IT CHECKED ASAP
If the person develops fever, cough, difficulty in breathing, sore throat, body aches, and pain, including flu-like symptoms, immediately inform MOH / PHI of the area. The management is here to help you and heal you, so do not shy away from them.
STOP USING THE SAME FACEMASK EVERY TIME
After use, disposable facemasks and gloves should be properly discarded without reuse, preferably in a closed container. There is the reason why these items are called ‘disposable’ in the first place. Stop overusing them, it’s not good.
SEPARATE UTENSILS FOR EACH PERSON
Assign separate dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, bedding, and other items for the quarantined person. Precautions are always better than cure, always remember.
WORST CASE CONDITION
In case the person is showing proper symptoms and is not willing to go to a hospital at all costs, he/she must be room quarantined for a minimum of 14 days.
At the end of the day, we will fight and come back from this pandemic. Please stay indoors, do not come out. Please stay safe, this is not a joke anymore!
