Robotics Module, TECHNICHE

Robotics has always been a fascinating field in the vast ocean of science and technology. In this modern age of science and technology we can see robots being employed in major working areas of humans and thereby simplifying the monotonous assembly line work for the humans. With the advent of robotics, there is a lot of high end research being carried out in this field and it’s a matter of no surprise that robotics has become a major study area in countries like USA and Germany.

Seeing these advancements in the field of robotics, the students of IIT Guwahati recognized the dire need of promoting and inculcating the culture of  robotics to the vast student community in India by organizing several robotics competitions through TECHNICHE.

Escalade
Techniche organizes all India robotics competition called Escalade. Escalade has been organized successfully for the last two years (2013, 2014). Escalade received an enormous and striking participation from the college community present all over India during the last two editions. With every new edition of Escalade the event gets bigger and better. Escalade primarily acts as a platform to promote the budding talent of robotics present in the student community of India.

This event will be held in two stages:
i) Prelims
ii) Mains

PRELIMS:
The prelims will be conducted in all major cities across the nation in July, 2015 where Students can participate in a team of maximum 4 members. The top 6 teams from each center will be selected and called to IIT Guwahati to
participate in the mains event of the competition to be held during Techniche’15. Moreover the top 3 teams would get free travel tickets to
TECHNICHE. The registration fee is Rs 200 per team for prelims. The problem statement is to design a manual bot which can translate on the bridge and put the color block in the respective color pit.

MAINS:
Mains round of Escalade will be held at IIT Guwahati during its Annual Techno Management festival TECHNICHE where participants will compete with the finest Robotics enthusiasts from all over the nation. The problem statement of the Mains will be different from that of prelims and would be declared after Prelims round. Participants will also get a chance to witness and participate in
various other events which will be conducted during these 3 days.

Prizes worth 80K are at stake and the winner also gets the tag of “NATIONAL
ROBOTICS CHAMPION”.

Robocalypse
Under the theme of “Urge to destroy is also a creative urge”, Techniche organizes a robot fight where fellow robots try to axe and grind their opponents to get the ultimate glory and honor. The objective is to make a wired/wireless, manually controlled bot that can immobilize the opponent’s bot in a one on one competition.

Nuke Off
This event is circled around the concept of Elite Disaster Management, Where a robot has to accomplish a task in aftermath conditions, which are fundamentally inaccessible to human. Ex: Advancing through huge piles of debris which is impossible through any magnitude of human effort. To construct a basic bomb diffusing robot which can handle simple tasks like cutting wires, flip on switches, lift light objects, etc. and a simple autonomous robot to help in the bomb transmit.

Airborne
This event is centered on the theme of destroying a meteor in the space, cruising towards earth which has a potential harm of destroying the human race forever. The basic motive of this event is to create an aircraft that lift up some weights, make successful flights, and should complete the task. The prize money for this event is 40K INR.

Economic Crosscut
This event is motivated by the idea of route optimization i.e., reaching the destination in the shortest possible route. The main objective of this event is to build an autonomous robot which can use IMAGE PROCESSING to traverse from start to finish at the least cost possible. Prizes worth 40K INR are at stake.

Pentagon Defense
This event is based on the idea of protecting the human planet from alien
invasion and UFO’s. The aim of this event is to construct a manual bot which can be controlled to play the game of air hockey and score fifty points to win the challenge against your opponent. The prize money for this event is 35K INR.
