An interview is the most basic and the first step in order to grab your dream job. Interviews are not a sudden thing that occurs out of the blue. It is always professionally scheduled. Therefore, one has to be ready for it by preparing well before attending any interview.

Planning for an interview is one of the basic principles to be followed. Before attending any interview, the main points to be considered include the following:

GO THROUGH THE JOB DESCRIPTION THOROUGHLY

The job description is one of the prime aspects of any kind of Job role or Job profile.

Job description generally includes – 

  • Job Title including Designation
  • Eligibility criteria 
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Purpose
  • Scope
  • Skills required
  • Salary Offered
  • Work Location
  • Working conditions i.e., Working timings, Dress code

Some candidates apply for a particular job without going through the Job profile. This is not always the case but about 50% – 60% of candidates go through the Job profile and apply for the particular job.

GET A CLEAR PICTURE OF THE COMPANY

The interviewer may check if you are keen to join their company. So, he/she may ask a few basic questions about the company. Knowing about the company will increase the chances of getting hired. 

The basic introduction about the company like:

  • Company Profile
  • When was the company started and by whom? 
  • Products of the Company (If it’s a product based company)
  • How will you be beneficial to the company
  • Why did you choose this particular company?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next few years in the company?
  • What excites you about the future of the company?

The candidates should be ready to answer the above-mentioned questions, even though it is less likely to be asked in order to master the interview process. There is no harm in getting to know about any company. It may or may not be useful for the interview process but will surely add to your knowledge.

KNOWLEDGE ON APTITUDE 

Aptitude questions are considered to check the unique and unusual potential of an individual. They include Quantitative, Logical reasoning, and Verbal. These questions are something that you would have already learned during school. 

Quantitative Questions are asked to check the ability of the candidate to solve numerical and mathematical calculations.

Logical Reasoning Questions are asked in order to judge the analytical and logical skills of the candidate. The answer to any particular question asked, will be judged on the individuality of the candidate’s thinking process rather than the correct or wrong answer.

Verbal questions generally check the communication skills of the candidate. The communication used by the candidate while answering would be best not to have their mother tongue influence.

In order to improve communication skills, watch Tedx talks, motivational speeches by successful people, or watch English movies with subtitles. Voila!

QUESTIONS RELATED TO YOUR EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The interviewer may ask a few questions based on your Educational Qualification depending on your highest qualification.

Candidates from an IT background will be asked questions on programming, circuit-related questions whereas candidates from non- IT background will be asked questions on accounts, finance and more related to their particular Educational Qualification. Just a glimpse of whatever you have studied and whatever is important will be helpful while answering any questions related to your educational qualification.
