Wishing everyone a very Happy Onam – 2010
Onam is the one time when we find our office empty. Has to do with most of the group being Keralites( Over the last one year, a lot of non Keralites have joined us). But we celebrate Onam with a lot of fervor in our office and it was no different this time.
Onam marks the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali and this festival is linked to many elements of Kerala’s culture and tradition. Intricate flower carpets, elaborate banquet lunch, snake boat races and the kaikottikkali dance all play a part in the festival. Onam is a Hindu festival that has assumed a secular character as it is celebrated by people of different faiths and it is close to heart of all Malayalees and is celebrated with equal fervor in all parts of Kerala. For this festival, people wear new clothes: men wear a shirt and mundu, and women wear mundu and a golden bordered shoulder drape.
We dressed up in traditional wear, laid out a beautiful flower carpet and also feasted on homemade payasam and chips (Thanks to Joby’s relatives)
The treat was our unique kaikottikkali.
We wish all our members a very Happy Onam!
