Mock Placement : Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering, Pollachi

Joby, Imran and I set out from Bangalore at around 1 AM in Joby’s Scorpio. It was an awesome drive through some of India’s best highways. By a round 7 AM, we were in Pollachi and met Karthik. Karthik is our Campus Ambassador from MCET, Pollachi. He directed us to the college and we settled down at the college guest house. After a quick breakfast
Joby at the audi
at the hostel, we set out to conduct the GD programme and Joby to take a tour of the campus.

MCET is a private ins

titution
affiliated to the Anna University on Coimbatore – Dindugal highway. The college has amazing infrastructure equipp
ed with state of the art labs and auditoriums. The college aims to develop a globally competitive workforce.

As in every Igniting Minds event, Karthik and his team had already conducted the first round of Aptitude tests and had shortlisted 67 participants. Me and Imran went about taking GD sessions. The response was so overwhelming that we also decided to conduct the same for people who had not cleared the Aptitude test. We conducted a total of around 10 GDs. We selected around 20 candidates for the final round of Mock Interviews. Joby had also arrived and we split into 3 panels. After the interview session, we set out for lunch.

We were also joined by our CAs, Vijay and Suresh and they also formed panels.

Post lunch, we had a meeting with

some of the Profs of the college on how to partner for more initiatives. The Placement Officer, Mr Dhanapalan who has been following us closely for years told us a story. In 2004, when he took some of the students for an Off Campus interview for Hexaware, he found one student exploding and arguing in the GD round. The student was an exceptional candidate and Mr Dhanapalan was amazed at his behavior (by johnson). Later, when he questioned him on his unruly behavior, the student told him that it was written on Freshersworld.com, that you have to argue well for the Hexaware GD. This was an experience shared by some other candidates on the site. I am amazed at the levels of trust we have with our audience.

By this time, around 3000 students had assembled in the auditorium. Joby addressed them and so did me. But however, it was Imran who took the audience on a fun ride. Imran conducted some amazing games that really emphasized the need for the right aptitude in students to clear
a speech based on his experience of sitting for a placement drive.placement interviews. Suresh also did

We were presented souvenirs and we then had a discussion with the volunteers. We also presented the volunteers with certificates.

Surya, a close friend of Karthiks’ was our guide all the time taking us from the guest house to the halls, etc.  We would like to thank him for all the help and wonderful hospitality. The team at Anjali

It was them time to have some fun. All of us along with Surya and Prithvi set out for some sight seeing. As it was my birthday eve, dinner was on me. After dinner, we returned to the guest house and then set off for the event to Coimbatore next day morning.

I would like to thank Karthik, his wonderful team and the faculty members for their help and coordination in making the event a success.
